Our forum is showing some signs of life

image

The VA forum is starting to show some signs of life. It's a good sign for political junkies like me but as always, a lot of people don't like controversy. I wish there was a way to combine everyone's interest, sort of of like a cafeteria forum. Every time, I want to write a nonpolitical blog, someone will post a political blog, and I feel compelled to retaliate. I know that sounds like a bad excuse but our forum was political when I joined, and it will still be political when I leave. I do like a change of pace now and then instead of the recycled themes. I think politics will be at the forefront for another 366 days.

Did I miss the boat and land in the Twilight Zone? I've could've sworn Christians used to preach tolerance, loving our fellow man, taking care of the poor, and being good stewards of the earth. It seems like in the last few years Christians have become political and less caring about getting along or promoting good works. I'm sure it's still being done but some on our forum are causing some posters to challenge their" holier than thou" attitude. I had to stop Gary White before I posted something that I would be sorry for. He was taking me down to a road where he would try to make me admit that Bill Clinton was not a moral man. I've had that discussion with others, and as I've told them, “I don't need you to define morals for me." I wouldn't be wrong for thinking that leaving clean air and clean water for the next generation is moral or morals could be defined as seeing to it that as many people as possible have health care insurance." It's not only about what Gary thinks is moral. I think it's immoral for Gary to provoke others into arguments. He could start with factual posts. It’s impossible to have a dialogue with a fundamentalist because they are in a zone it cannot be penetrated.

I just had to listen to my kids and do most of my shopping online, but they didn't tell me about all the emails I would be getting from Amazon and ITunes etc. I know it's just a little program script but it's still creepy when I log into Amazon and get a message “you might be interested in this since you just bought that." There's always a catch and nothing is free but air and water but of not so sure of the latter. It wouldn't be so bad if they just went to my computer, but I have to delete them on my iPad and iPhone. The alarm on my phone is constantly going off telling me I have another email. Fortunately, I can put that in the off position. I know people there are without jobs, and I'm complaining about a simple nuisance.

Does anyone know how the forum will change (other than what has been displayed) after the first of the year? I hope it's not too difficult because I'm pretty comfortable the way he is but it was a pretty impressive background. Every time, I decide to go to an Advocate meeting. Something gets in the way but most of time I just forget. That's a burden of retirement sometimes; you just get comfortable with a routine. I guess I could set up alarms on my gadgets to remind me. I would like to add some new features to my personal blog, but I haven't seen any out there.

I'm going to try and leave this blog open for a day or two and just update it because it's hard keeping up with two blogs.

The forum is picking up. However, the Advocate Troll Club, itisi, rollinstone and their 5th wheel, GetSmart, can't carry on a decent dialogue to save their souls! I haven't seen anyone profess that the Dems are perfect in every way, but I sure have seen a lot of dragging up old JFK, Clinton, Hart history when someone wants to discuss Herman Cain's inability to keep his thang to himself or tell the truth about when he doesn't. Do they really think old histpry is going to make us excuse current history? Do they not realize that JFK, Clinton and Hart are not currently running for a political office? What morons!

And speaking of morons--have you noticed that Gary White has chosen not to prove me wrong? I've asked at verious times for him to show me where I am wrong. But, as I have been tellin you and others--he has an agenda and that agenda aligns with the New Apostolic Movement, the Dominionists and the Christian Reconstructionists.

You know his pastor has told him that it is his moral and Christian duty and obligation to be a martyr for the cause. You know that is the only reason he bothers with us.

Yes, he is not at all practicing Christian principles like tolerance, unconditional love, benevolence and stewardship. He is a hypocrite of the worst kind. And his continued refusal to listen to reason--well, I see who the real fool here is...

It's sad but Alton Easton's latest blog is way over the top and he should be ashamed of himself...His title and his lies should not be published in a public forum. In his last sentence he matches his title with his personal opinion...I am ashamed the VA allowed this. I remember they took down several of Kenneth's blog for doing the same thing.

Mike said...

EA
I don't know about you but I'm really mad right now because I hate liars and it's best I stay off the VA right now or I would let Alton have it but I would probably get deleted...He doesn't have to like Obama or Democrats but he should not publish lis just to stir up people.

The first thing Rollinstone did was try to correct my post by saying that Clinton didn't leave a surplus, well I submitted a couple of links proving my point but he then changed the subject to the debt but he can argue with Bloomberg and the NYT.

They don't know anything and they try to mask their ignorance by staying on the attack with irrevalant information...Every knows they hate Obama and they know they don't have any worthy candidates because their own right wing blogs say so.

You know I don't have any use for a evangelical bigot like Gary..He's a total contradiction to what he is preaching.

Do you think it can get any worse?Sorry for ranting.

Edith Ann said...

I was just posting on Alton's blog. We'll see if my comment stays!

As to liars--here's my deal--

I don't care what political party, church or college you are partial to. Just tell the truth! I will defend your right to be different til the world looks level, but just tell the truth! I will support you when you are attacked (sometimes) if you just tell the truth!

I have very little tolerance for those who crawfish when called out. If you don't have the balls to own your words, then I have no use for you. I don't even need an apology--I just need the truth!

They are all just immature little weasels.

Mike said...

Wow,EA really hit Alton's blog right between the eyes with both barrels with well chosen words while staying between the lines without getting deleted.

My hero and inspiration

Edith Ann said...

Pilot gott the boot--again--and blogged over here on his blogspot blog. You get a favorable mention. Be sure to read--

http://apirateagroundinthecity.blogspot.com/

Edith Ann said...

Oh, the delete nazi is just on his dinner break...

I don't care anymore. I really am not trying to offend folks, but I am fixing to be 57 years old, and I no longer care who I offend. I am proud to be a Dem, and my republican friends and family can just get over it! If they don't like what I have to say, they don't have to read!

Edith Ann said...

I guess I should have ended my comment with, "Then you better run for the hills lest someone mistake you for the ass that you are."

I don't know? Too harsh?

Mike said...

Well EA,I followed your lead and my post will probably be deleted but I feel a lot better...Thanks.

That's too bad about Pilot because he was an original and a lot of his comments I could relate to and we never crossed paths even thou we didn't always agree...He never lied as far as I know.

Edith Ann said...

Pilot is a good guy--just very passionate about certain things!

I'm just glad to see him posting over here again. He's a great blogger and I've missed him.

BIGJ said...

Gary and Alton East need to go. As for the other person, who remain nameless, I find it strange that there was no postings of him as of late. I just flagged Alton’s blog.

I do not feel sorry for the man. He deserve it. If he was so passionate about things then he should talk about those things. He had no right to go on Facebook or my email and say gee, “I know who you are” or "I didn't know you have political connections in the family” etc. I could go on about him, but I rather spend time on something better.

Edith Ann said...

BigJ--Pilot is banned again, so you won't have to read him on the Advocate. As far as facebook goes--don't open messages from him, just delete before reading.

But, the Alton blog is gone!

Buddhists are the new Christians.

I would argue that humans are flawed. We all make bad choices, even when we usually make good ones. We might try to be moral, but we are still human.

I don't think Gheni is being picked on but her topics are... Gheni will be a good reporter one day but the Victoria forum readers are generally in their fifties or older. It's that crowd that she is not appealing to and ones that don't like in -your- face controversial subjects. That might work in Houston but it won't work with demographics of Victoria.

I don't think Alton or Gary should be banned but they should be given warning letters. There are differences of opinion and I respect that but Alton went over the top by trying to imply that democrats and President Obama were the cause of possible bestiality in the military because of the repeal of DADT. First of all, President Obama went kicking and screaming when he was first approached about repealing DADT.. He turned it over to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and they in turn submitting a questionnaire to all the military. The military was fine with repealing DADT.... They only did this because a Federal judge was fixing to rule DADT unconstitutional. The military thought the best approach was to handle it themselves instead of being forced by the court.....

If that blog was left to stand, I would have made my exit because that would've been a message that anything goes; facts be damned.

Rebecca said...

or maybe I should have said that moral people can make bad choices.

It's kinda ignorant to believe there are people who could rightfully wear the label of moral 100% of the time. Usually, when someone has mastered the art of "convincing others" it's because they have something terrible to hide.

I really believe that. Because it's been true 100% of the time.

Honest people who have nothing to hide don't feel the need to impress (or convince) anyone.

I went off on a rant. LOL

Mike said...

Rebecca
I agree 100%..... I also think that if a person puts themself up on a pedestal and preaches" holier than thou" they become vulnerable to attacks.
I used to think the Amish were the models of Christianity but that is no longer so.... You would think that people who would kill themselves in the name of Allah would live a very orthodox life but every time we confiscate property from the Islamic terrorist, it proves quite the opposite.

We're all flawed human beings.

Rebecca said...

I also think that when people are struggling with addiction or they have an alcoholic personality, they will cling more tightly to religion - dogma. I think they need to! So, it's not a bad thing. They will be obsessed with it, because deep down inside they are ALWAYS fighting something. Focusing on religion and how they know they should live their lives (even if it's by telling others how they should live theirs) will help them to not slip. or make them believe they won't slip. I'm for whatever is keeping them from smoking, drinking, doing drugs, beating on someone, cutting themselves, having suicidal thoughts...

That internal struggle manifests and a pretty irritating way, but I think it's part of how they keep from harming themselves or others.

Gary has to believe that alcohol is evil because it is for him. (example)

(sorry more ranting)

Rebecca said...

I also think that to those people - a voice of reason is threatening.

"Reason" is what happens right before they slip.

Edith Ann said...

I can't argue with the last 6 comments, so I won't.

Mike said...

Again I agree, and I've always said that you don't have brag on your accomplishments, education, or intent because a self analysis is not worth much with me; type a paragraph or two and I will have all the information I need...If that makes any sense.

Careful Rebecca, candidate Obama had to apologize for saying similar words when he said "And it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." Obama was explaining his difficulty with winning over working-class voters in Pennsylvania and the Midwest, saying they have become frustrated with economic conditions:

Anyway, that's the way I feel, if Christianity can help them control their demons; go for it.

A Pentecostal preacher was trying to preach to me by saying that he knows what he's talking about because he overcame an addiction to alcohol. I said “that’s fine and commendable but I never had an addiction to alcohol or tobacco." Gary doesn't realize that he's not preaching to the same friendly choir that he's accustomed to. He has to make adjustments if he's going to get his point across. He may well have good intent but it's lost if he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Edith Ann said...

Sometimes I cannot hear what folks are trying to say because their actions are speaking too loudly for me to hear.

Gary White is another example (Kenneth Schhustereit...) of where a teesy bit of knowledge, coupled with the inability to think and reason and find decerment for yourself, leads to looking like an ignorant oaf. Gary has not matured enough in his walk with Christ to use his faith as an example or to lead folks to Christ, in my opinion.

I am still trying to figure out his hell-bent rant on celibacy.

I should not bother.

Rebecca said...

Mike, to your Obama reference, I'm not running for office and I don't have to apologize for having thoughts. I'm free. =P

Mike said...

Rebecca
You read my mind;I thought about that after I sent my post...You're quick on your feet...:-)

Mike said...

EA
I'm not sure why Gary continues to connect celibacy with pedophilia but I have a hunch.
I used to have a good working relationship with a Pentecostal where we would take good nature shots at each other but one day he got serious and told me he wouldn't have a clear conscience unless he recommended a website that I must view....It was a Pentecostal site but the whole site was devoted to anti-Catholic articles.....It's more about anti-Catholic than anything else.

Rebecca said...

Mike, I attended a Pentecostal church for a few years and they believed that "the whore of Babylon" as mentioned in the bible was the Catholic Church.

I feel that if churches preach against other churches, THAT church is a cult.

I think Catholic should mean the body of believers NOT the body of believers who are members of the Catholic church. D=

Rebecca said...

My grammar is really bad. LOL

I should have said something like, "A church that preaches against other churches is a cult."

Mike said...

I heard something like that this morning....When someone asked a marketing executive as to why Burger King never ran a negative ad against its chief rival, McDonalds the executive said " It damages the image of the product we are both trying to sell." ..Churches are supposed to be selling salvation and devotion, which is their main product.

Rebecca said...

I'm going to sing the praises of Burger King's double stacker. Salvation to my taste buds, hell on my rear. =P

So much temptation!

Rebecca said...

I should have said "heaven on my taste buds, hell on my hips."

I made it sound like I was double stacker intolerant.

=P

Mike said...

Alton gave a typical " for anyone that was offended" apology (not really an apology) and then ended it by blaming liberals....If Democrats or Obama alone really were responsible for passing legislation that promoted the cause of possible bestiality in the military because of the repeal of DADT, then by means post it...Even liberals cannot deny the truth but no, Mr.Easton, it was a bald face lie and you were called on it. Now he's blaming the posters who protested the contents of his blog for the trash he submitted and vowed to never post a political blog...We'll see how long that lasts because he doesn't get it.

Post all the negative things about liberals, Democrats and Obama but don't tie them to hideous acts that are false because that belittles our forum even more.

He will get his defenders because they don't care about the facts;they just want the fight.

I wonder if the Advocate would have let his blog stand if Alton would not have voluntarily pulled it. He says he pulled it but he doesn't have any creditability..IMO

Mike said...

I read Alton's blog again and I now think the VA took it down...If they did, good for them. It restores my faith in them.

Edith Ann said...

I'm sure they yanked it! Alton would have never voluntarily taken it down!

Mike said...

EA
I believe you're right because he thinks that posting an obvious lie is perfectly OK, as long as they come from a right wing website that's cleared by his lawyer....lol

They passed DADT last year and the president signed it already, so I don't know what he's talking about. I wish I would have saved a copy of his blog. I looked at last night's senate docket and I couldn't find anything about DADT.

He will address us in the abstract but not specifically.

Edith Ann said...

itisi is coming to Alton's rescue. Alton will check in later, perhaps, and I'm sure Gary will want to explain to us that celibacy in the military causes soldiers to have sex with animals.

Mike said...

EA
Good one...I expected itisi to come in and take a shot without knowing anything about the contents of last night's blog.....Don't they read?

Edith Ann said...

What's to read? itisi, rollinstone, GetSmart, Alton--they are all going to be of one mind, even if they are only discussing the shade of blue of the sky. If one of them posts something, the others know they can just cut to the chase and support their leader of the moment.

Easy-peasy!

Mike said...

You are on a roll tonight...You know these dudes ,if you ain't a right winger ;you're one of them there sleezy liberals.

Mike said...

You called it,Gary blindly agrees and then writes an incoherent sentence.

The Sleazy Liberal said...

I should have taken bets! I could have made some money!

Alton will continue to lay low and then come in and post during the night while we're all getting our beauty sleep...

Legion said...

I knew the George Purvis person would show his bias even more than he has. "Lincoln sent a invasion fleet to Fort Sumter."

Wrong...again.

How could the US invade it's own Fort?

Mike said...

Mr.Purvis won't take any answer but his..I have already posted my evidence on how slavery  was the reason for the Civil War,I glad I didn't go any further.

I worked with a  person who had a degree in Civil War studies ,he would come to work angry many times because (in his mind) he had to give the book answer as he called it....He didn't think slavery was the cause of the war. He tried to say that slaves fought for the south but we looked it up...I believe there were ~250,000 slaves that fought for the   north or about 9% of the fighting force. About 30,000 slaves served the south but only a handful actual fought.....My friend did  agree that not many documents support that case like rosters, pay records, mustering out, or in soldiers leters.

Mike said...

I had to laugh big time when I read the blog about forces causing all the polorization.Really! That's like me complaining about  someone writing a Republican blog. Different points of views should be encouraged and not a reason to censor  just because some think it leads to rowdy discussions.

IMO,posters that do not come prepared to discuss a controversial with generally accepted facts or links to support their case are the reasons the discussion gets out of hand. The ones that can't make a case with their personal stories, they usually turn to name calling.

I will never apoligize for chiding someone for posting outright lies such as saying this president's DADT policy will encourage our soldiers  to engage in sex with animals...That's not only stupid, it's a bald face lie. The VA had every right to take down that blog.

Mike said...

Correction: 2nd paragraph
Should be contravesial subject.
I also inserted the word " they" without reason.

Rebecca said...

I imagine that the Civil War was like ... other wars. Those at the top are the ones who fund and have influence. The average person just tries to defend their home - hopes their children don't get killed.

Most people were victims of their geography.

What percentage of the population actually had slaves? Who were the people who were benefiting financially and had something to lose if they couldn't have slave labor? The same type of people who benefited from using children as slaves in factories.

Those are the people who pit average person against average person and make them fight their wars.

But people still gripe about "communism" without thinking about how evil "capitalism" can be.

No sources! Just thinking about human nature.

Rebecca said...

I'm not buying that every southerner who fought was fighting for slavery. Not everyone had slaves. I'm betting many fought to stay alive or because they had to fight. I bet some didn't fight. I bet they died for that. "Sympathizers" are killed in war.

Mike said...

Rebecca

That's a great response but when historians look to the reasons for war ,they look to government action not the thoughts of the citizens...True,not everyone had slaves and a lot  fought for their land and their way of life....As someone said ,we remember the "whites only" drinking fountains growing up but we never questioned it. I remember the Catholic Church for turning their back on the Jews when the Germans came for them.....I just think we must accept the good with the very bad and not try to justify it or run away from it..
One poster was saying the north attacked us...I said "whoa,I 'm a United States citizen first,Texan second."

You have a good grasp of what happened, that's not surprising, but unfortunately a lot of people don't......A lot of people are trying to rewrite history without resources.

BIGJ said...

I don't know about yall but some people deserve the harshness they recieve. Gary's racist comments have tick me off. I hope he is the next no good Bastard (that right I said it) after Pilot and Alton Easton to go.
