The Illegal Immigration Issue is Back

A week ago, a bipartisan delegation of senators rolled out their version of a comprehensive immigration reform package that is very similar to the one that was rejected in 2007.  This new plan is just the skeleton framework of the one which will eventually pass. The real sausage making will take place in the House of Representatives.

The GOP sent out their Hispanic representative Cuban –American ,Marco Rubio but their other Cuban –American,Ted Cruz said I appreciate the good work that senators in both parties have put into trying to fix our broken immigration system. There are some good elements in this proposal, especially increasing the resources and manpower to secure our border and also improving and streamlining legal immigration. However, I have deep concerns with the proposed path to citizenship. To allow those who came here illegally to be placed on such a path is both inconsistent with rule of law and profoundly unfair to the millions of legal immigrants who waited years, if not decades, to come to America legally” which is quite honestly the position that derailed the last proposal? Texas’s other senator, John Cornyn, agreed with Cruz because he’s up for reelection in 2014, so until then he will echo whatever the junior senator has to say.

This Senate version excludes the LGBT community of a pathway to citizenship.  The plan also calls for border security first, and I’m ashamed to say that the Democrats signed off on that.  The 2007 immigration plan had more security first... front and center and this administration has surpassed the metrics of that plan.  I can understand why the GOP wants it in the plan, but Democrats need to point out that net migration into this country has dipped to zero.  President Obama is setting deportation records.  For example, in 2010, his administration deported 392,000 people and last year they surpassed that by deporting  410,000 people.  A record $18 billion(more than any other Federal law enforcement) was spent on border security.  We now have about 21,000 border agents, 5000 ICE agents and 207  immigration judges, but it was our weak economy that made the southern border manageable.  It's not about higher electrified fences, more drones, or more restrictive policies.

Now is the optimal time to discuss comprehensive immigration reform. It's a known fact that we have an aging population, and our birth rate is dropping and so is those of our immigrants.

I heard a republican say that instead of giving  immigrants in the high- tech field citizenship;  we should be training our own in those jobs.  The concept is not a bad one, but it's a little late on saying what we should've done and besides, we should practice what we preach.  Why weren't the republicans asking for more money for high tech job-training programs?  They do control the purse strings.

It's understandable since 58% of those that come into this country illegally come from Mexico, that most of the conversation would be centered on them.  That being the case, those who are advising the GOP -have to do more than tell them not to use the words, illegal, amnesty, alien and anchor baby when discussing illegal immigration because the advisers are being disingenuous.  Those derogatory terms have been passed down for generations and are ingrained into the hearts of those people who use them.  Skirting the issue for political gain never works unless you think Americans are stupid and can't see through that.  Marco Rubio can suger-coat the word amnesty all he wants and Chuck Shumer can say that they will pay a fine, learn English and all that but it's forgiveness because we don't have a will, plan or the resources to deport 11 million undocumented people.

You only need to read the latest copy of the National Review to see what I'm talking about.  The National Review article was right when it stated that, politically, it's not a good move for republicans.  It's a myth that Hispanics tend to be more conservative, but the harsh rhetoric will keep the wavering moderates away. The GOP needs to read the latest Tina Dupuy (which is in today's Advocate)article where she explains the difference between a person of Mexican descent and one of Cuban descent.  There is a world of difference and the first being, Mexico is at at our doorstep and the culture has been part of this country for a very long time.

The Senate version had a laughable clause on border security.  A commission of border governors such as Brewer and Perry would let us know when the metrics on border security were met.  Governor Brewer has a lot of brand-new  detention centers, so her bar would be extremely high.  Governor Perry wants to run for governor again( although polls indicate he shouldn’t)so expect him to take the self- deportation route.  Again, I don't know why the democrats signed off on this, unless they just wanted to keep the ball rolling.

One thing is certain, this battle won't be like the 2007 one, where everyone caved in to the extreme right because this time the Dreamers will be on the front line using 21st Century methods to keep pressure on Democrats and Republicans .

Way OT, but I got a Speedy Stop/7-Eleven rant.
Since when don't they allow paying cash, or using a card inside, for gas?
I pulled up to the store in Edna, popped my tank lid open, unscrewed the cap and went to push the "pay inside" button and it wasn't there. It had only 2 options, Debit card and Credit card...and only at the pump. I do not put my card into one of those outside pump slots. I didn't even see a pre-pay before you pump sign anywhere.
I just put everything back like it was, got in my car and drove down the highway and went to the next one.
No one, and I mean no one, is going to tell me how to pay for gas.
I'm guessing by how empty the store was, that many people thought, and did, the same thing I did.
There is seldom a empty spot at the pumps. I really think it is going to hurt the store in a small town like Edna.

I agree born,a store should offer as many payment options as possible and unless it after dark and had a policy of no cash on hand.

Off topic #2 ....:-). Did anyone see Chris Wallace interview with Wayne LaPierre?
Chris made LaPierre look like a spoiled child rambling utter nonsense...He was for universal background checks ten years ago but not now....1.7 million did not get a gun because they failed a background check but he doesn't want to close the second option;people who use the background checks......I don't know for a fact but I think gun collectors insure their guns and give the  identifying  to an insurance company. I believe it's just a small group of people who fear a tyrannical goverment.

On topic # 1.

If we want to stop the onslaught, we need to do the following:
1.) Secure the entire border. Build an impenetrable fence, wall, moat, or whatever from San Diego to the Gulf of Mexico.
2.) Station ARMED National Guard forces along most of the border.
3.) Make E-VERIFY MANDATORY
4.) Track who comes in, when they leave, and DEPORT all visa over-stayers.
5.) Address / redress / clarify / repeal Section 1 of the 14th Amendment (birthright issue), and assign the citizenship of a baby born to 2 illegal aliens citizenship of the mother's country-of-origin.
6.) Double / Triple the size of INS / US Border Patrol
7.) Conduct more workplace raids by ICE.
8. ) Stop the massive entitlements (EBT cards, WIC, SNAP / food-stamps, Section 8 housing, etc.)
9.) Require all students to show proof of citizenship when registering for school.
10.) STOP creating incentives and any amnesty / DREAM Act legislation.
11.) Enforce ALL the immigration laws on the books.

Once we do this, illegal aliens will have no choice but to SELF-DEPORT at no-cost to the American taxpayers. Enough is enough. If any sort of amnesty or DREAM Act is approved, we'll see hordes of impoverished, unskilled, uneducated, illiterate, diseased, and criminal Mexicans and Central Americans running for our border at break-neck speed in a tsunami of mass migration the likes we've never seen before. Then, we'll see chain-migration of epic proportions as those here will send for their entire extended families. Is THIS what we want, to turn into the same 3rd world cesspool these people abandoned to come here? I think NOT!

Who's this Von Prien he must've read my mind.

And Born to be me, maybe they were closed. I've been to the store if it's the one by the freeway, and you can pay inside.

You really showed them.

I'll ignore the racist statements and just try to answer the ones the ones that might actually be discussed in Washington.

I can't get rid the hateful rhetoric that continues to lose national elections for Republicans, but I'll let these comments stand, so people can see what keeps us from having a civil discussion.

Your 11 proposals of “enforcement only” goes to show how some live in a fact less based world. The border is manageable right now because of our economy, so our economy is not an enticement but you still want to triple the $18 billion we spent last year for securing our borders.

Making e-Verify mandatory will make sense when we require tampering proof documents and a National ID card.

We need to add to the cost of updating the SSA database, Homeland Security Security and build more detention centers, so you are probably asking Congress for another $75 billion since you want to triple everything even thou when we have a zero net gain in southern border crossings right now.

Ratifying the constitution to add an amendment to exclude American citizens will probably take another 10 years. That’s if it passes the Senate and has enough votes to override a presidential veto. Read the 14th Amendment and pay strict attention to the word ALL in BOLD LETTERS and read some court cases where this issue has already been decided.

Non-Citizens cannot receive food stamps, etc....Your gripe is with the states, and churches you would call sanctuaries. The Dream Act will become a reality because even conservative Republicans are in favor of this; they see the handwriting on the wall.

You don't have much faith in our country but I have no doubt you will continue to believe what you want to but watch and see the rest of America come up with a comprehensive immigration plan by early summer. If your party listened to you they will be an endangered species in two years.

Von Prien
I don't want to continue this type of discussion with someone who obviously doesn't know anything about the situation. You knew that but you wanted to make your vile statements...You got your wish.

Racist, how about a concerned American that wants the borders closed. I'm all for going through the proper channels for citizen ship. But I'm against Amnesty.

So your telling me non-citizens don't receive food stamps, medical care, housing. Then why do they get fake documents and social security cards. Is it to pay someone else's taxes? Or is it to receive free benefits. We know this is a problem, that's a big reason for national ID's. Why on earth is there a tremedous black market for SS cards. It's for the benefits.

And the detention centers for implementing the deportations of illegals are going to be more costly than the influx of cartel criminals, drug runners, and trafickers. Is it true 50% of California prisons are full of illegals. That sure seems to be a problem. A detention center sends them back, A prison shelters, feeds, and cares for them for decades. Got to think in the long run, what costs more money.

I think the anchor babies should go to their mother's country of origin. It's quite odd that illegals can procreate thus creating Americans. Kind of Hypocritical. Anchor baby's are the money factor in illegal households. Once Illegals start dropping babies from the womb, they're automatically eligible for the Welfare Tit.

A net Zero increase in border crossings. They might catch more illegals but they have no real hard facts about how many make it through. Several years ago, and you can fact check it. The Mexican government actually printed pamphlets on how to cross the border and how to get free Government assistance.

So what happens, once a baby is born in an American hospital, and paid for by American Tax-payers, hook line an sinker. the illegal parents fill out the forms for the baby, and begin living off that income also.

Basically, the majority of households across the country benefiting from publicly-funded welfare programs are headed by immigrants, both legal and illegal. States where immigrant households with children have the highest welfare use rates are Arizona (62%), Texas, California and New York with 61% each and Pennsylvania(59%).The study focused on eight major welfare programs that cost the government $517 billion the year they were examined. They include Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for the disabled, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), a nutritional program known as Women, Infants and Children (WIC), food stamps, free/reduced school lunch, public housing and health insurance for the poor (Medicaid).Food assistance and Medicaid are the programs most commonly used by illegal immigrants, mainly on behalf of their American-born children who get automatic citizenship.

Churches aren't giving Federally funded Welware, And no matter how you break down Federally funded Welfare of who doles it out, it's still taken from . . . Tax Dollars

"Read the 14th Amendment and pay strict attention to the word ALL in BOLD LETTERS and read some court cases where this issue has already been decided."

So with this statement, this is your stance that from here on out, nothing in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights is to be changed from this day forward.

I'm good with that. Because chances are changes are politically motivated and not in the best interest of AMERICAN people.

Perry Mason said...

To tell me illegal aliens cannot receive welfare is like playing chess with pigeons - No matter how good you are at chess, the pigeons are just going to knock over the pieces, poop on the board, and strut around.

But he's still getting that welfore check whether he is supposed to or not.

You were really joking about illegals not collecting welfare?

Weren't you?

I'd rather spend 36 billion for the Great Wall, than give away a half a trillion to illegals.

And no matter what the actual figures are in real money, it's going to far exceed the costs of illegals aliens on the welfare tit into the next century. 36 billion instead of umpteen trillions.

Let's break that down, shall we.

Mike if it were up to America, and if we took a vote right now across ALL 57 states(lol). I'd bet the farm that American's would get rid of the illegals.

And that's a damn shame that if my so-called party as you say did become extinct, because of people that break the laws are given amnesty are allowed to usurp American laws, then so be it.
Because you'd have lost checks and balances system of a two party system. Then it would be, what's the word, Socialist, Marxists, Imperialists, not sure but it's one of them.

And Mike why would the party go extinct, would it be that there are 11 million new Democratic Voters? Would they go extinct for enforcing the laws on the books by Criminals and illegals gerrymandering. Because that's exactly what it is.

You can't honsestly believe American citizens would decimate the Republican party, or are you primarily refering to the Democratic party of just one and the 12 million Illegal immigrants causing riots. Spewing hate at public events around America, as you know they do. I thought they were illegal. And the laws are Federally mandated claiming they are illegal. Doesn't it seem that laws should be enforced with out prejudice to any party?
Sure doesn't seem that's by the people for the people! Seems more like pandering. And back scratching.

African Americans that I have talked too are very much against it, so are Caucasions and Asians, and legal Hispanics are adamantly againt this immigration reform.

Lots of competition for the Welfare already.

Mike said...

Never said CAN'T but the odds are very slim a constitutional amendment especially the 14th because there are not that many racist like you who want to change the 14th amendment and the 2/3 majority by Congress and the states and the president's signature is not there...Then it wouldn't pass constitutional mustard because of prior cases where it failed.

It's up to 535 members of Congress to decide what to spend and that's not on the list of priorities.

On September of 2008 Wall Street took $8 trillion of capital out of this country and the racists aren't concerned about that...I,m through ,enjoy your latest issue of KKK monthly because I'm through engaging with the uninformed.

Like I said enjoy posting all the vile things you can make up and someone of your ilk might like it but you'll get tired of posting just to see words appear on your screen.

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 6 in 10 Americans now favor allowing illegal immigrants to eventually become U.S. citizens, a major increase in support driven by a turnaround in Republicans' opinions after the 2012 elections.
The finding, in a new Associated Press-GfK poll, comes as the Republican Party seeks to increase its meager support among Latino voters, who turned out in large numbers to help-re- Obama in November.

elehttp://bigstory.ap.org/article/poll-many-say-let-illegal-immigrants-stay-usct President Barack Obama in November.

Most Americans think illegal immigrants should be able to stay in the United States and apply for citizenship, according to a new CBS News poll.

The 51 percent who favor a path to citizenship represents a 9 percentage point increase from February 2012. Also at that point, 30 percent wanted illegals to leave while 22 percent favored allowing them to stay as guest workers.

Mike said...

The new poll is in line with an ABC News/Washington Post survey conducted right after the November election that indicated Americans supported a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants by a 57%-39% margin.

And a CNN/ORC International poll conducted in late September indicated 56% of registered voters said the main focus of U.S. policy on illegal immigration should be a plan to allow them to become legal residents, with less than four in ten saying the main emphasis should be deporting illegal immigrants and stopping more from coming to the U.S. That was a switch from last year, when only a minority said the main focus should be to allow illegal immigrants to become legal residents.

Perry Mason said...

So Republicans are racists now, because they're not succumbing to the illegal's interests. I'm trying to have a civil conversation without calling names so you don't have to resort to calling me and other's names, I'm begining to think you hate Caucasions, but I'll let you continue to poop on the chess board instead of calling you a racist.

Back to our civil discussion, you believe in upholding the laws of the land, don't you?

Or do you pick and choose?

I'm still curious to the question I asked in direct relation to your statement: Are Illegals getting welfare?

Now . . . no pooping. Just wanting a civil discussion.

I could pull up polls that contradict you, but I don't care, I'm not here to debate polls, So leave the polls alone please.

?Again how big a drain on the American Taxpayers do you think Illegal aliens cause? the answer would be 0 to infinity. I'm not looking for a fact check number to call you right or wrong. I'm looking for an educated guess by you.

Don't go to ABC(All Barack Channel)
or MSNBC(Most Suitable Network Became Communist)or CNN (Communist Network News. formerly known as Clinton Network News) or FOX( Forgotten Old Xtremists).

Do you think the laws on the books should be enforced?

Because I don't want someone from another country, coming here or staying here illegally, and taking advantage of American Tax dollars, that is no reason to call me a racists.

In closing, cut and paste what makes me a racist?

I've given you my opinions buddy boy, without talking down to you or calling names. You pride yourself being a debater,I've asked you some questions. I want you opinion, not statistical folly whether good, bad, or ugly.

Simple questions, Simple answers.

Now I'm going to wipe all the pigeon poop off the board and let's start again like gentlemen.

Washington AP news 6 out of 10.

Your opinion, not the latest balderdash poll

Another question if you could enlighten me because I do not understand.

"And a CNN/ORC (( INTERNATIONAL POLL )) conducted in late September indicated 56% of registered voters said the main focus of U.S. policy on illegal immigration should be a plan to allow them to become legal residents, with less than four in ten saying the main emphasis should be deporting illegal immigrants and stopping more from coming to the U.S."

I looked up International to help me understand.

in·ter·na·tion·al (ntr-nsh-nl, -nshnl) KEY

ADJECTIVE:
Abbr. int. or intl.
Of, relating to, or involving two or more nations: an international commission; international affairs.
Extending across or transcending national boundaries: international fame.

NOUN:
International
Any of several socialist organizations of international scope formed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Does that mean CNN is now a Socialists network, or is that a poll conducted in other countries too besides the United States?

Seems odd they would be polling other countries about US immigration then touting the results without naming the other countries.

Or perhaps it is what is is.

Socialist Network.

It's your source.

Do Tell?

In my post I never said republicans are racists;my statement was directed at you only because of what you wrote and have in the past. My republicans friends would never say such things. You sir don't represent the GOP nor do they want you to.

You don't know how to have a civil discussion because all your thoughts are based on hate and divisiveness which is the reason you posted for others to see your work.

I've read and heard all the right wing talking points , so your labeling me a socialist (I know the definition) don't phase me a bit because I know who I am...I don't go your blog to insult you or post vile things.

I don't pride myself as a debater;that's just your opinion but I don't argue with the uniformed, racists or trolls.

Im busy..i'm old enough to know better and I bet you can find better things to do than try to entertain your fans.

Perry Mason said...

Golly Mike here I'm again wiping the poop off the chessboard. Besides calling me a racist for the umpteenth time when all I asked you should the laws be enforced for illegal aliens in the country and how much a burden they are on a the US taxpayers.

Then you call another group of people racists(plural) and I politely ask who you're refering too, I would surmise it's a political party but you wont say, and I'm not putting words in your mouth, but only listening to you spew hate, and vile divisiveness towards me and others. And you poop more on the chessboard.

"On September of 2008 Wall Street took $8 trillion of capital out of this country and the racists aren't concerned about that...I,m through ,enjoy your latest issue of KKK monthly because I'm through engaging with the uninformed."

Now you say for me to enjoy the lateast issue of KKK magazine c'mon Mike, all I asked was for you to tell me what international meant in the CNN poll, that supposedly polled American registered voters, and I wanted to know why it said international. and after all it was the source you chose. And then you say I'm calling you a socialists,

So why are You spewing such hatred to people that are against immigration and breaking American laws. I'm not calling you racist, but I'm beginning to wonder if you have issues with caucasions, and African Americans because it seems you're quite rude to both races yet you champion hispanics.

There's a pattern here and all I asked was simple questions about welfare, and federal laws.

Many of my friends are hispanic, and to call me a racist is very disturbing coming from someone who thinks federal laws are made to be broken, and that illegal aliens are not using entitlements is disconcerting. You tout American values, but your calling me and others racist for disagreeing with your views, and extremely simple questions. I wasn't aware KKK had a magazine, but obviously we're in different circles.
