It's upsetting to hear that we had another senseless killing because zeal won over reasoning. This time overzealous Palestinians attacked our American embassy killing our American ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, and three other Americans over a YouTube film that mocked the Muslim prophet Mohammed. The militants overtook the compound took down the American flag and replaced it with the black Islamic banner.
I heard this morning that the film had only had a few hundred hits before it was quickly packaged to serve as propaganda to incite the Muslim fundamentalists. I'm sure after all the notoriety; this film will be viewed by many. I heard(but not confirmed) that Terry (I refuse to call him pastor) Jones played a role in this.
As if it as if that was not enough, the Romney campaign broke the 911, negative campaign truce, and posted an attack memo condemning the Obama administration for what they thought was a response of sympathy for those who attacked the embassy. The Romney campaign posted their response an hour before midnight, breaking protocol. Their message read "I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi," "It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks." Despite the fact that the memo the Romney campaign criticized was one put out by the Cairo embassy and not by the White House, Hillary Clinton said, in no uncertain terms “the U.S. "deplores'" the denigration of religion depicted in the film, it would not countenance such violent responses. "
Times like these call for diplomacy not more hurtful rhetoric, politics, or the call for military action.
In
the middle of this new event, the campaign season, and our staggering economy,
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin is making noise because he thinks he was
snubbed by the White House because he was not scheduled a meeting with Obama. The prime minister is coming to the U.N.
General Assembly thinking that the president should allow him some time to talk
about Iran. I have never in my life ever
heard of a foreign leader dictating United States policy. I'm rather certain that we will not will
attack Iran in the next two months and perhaps never. Although we respect
Israel as one of our best Allies; we should only be focused on America's best
interest.
I'm amazed and disappointed at the same time when I see the words in the letters people write in our newspaper. One, in particular, is calling for everyone to see the documentary (not really a documentary) "2016”: a conservative vision of Obama’s second term, which is their right but not practical. If one has to view a film to see what would happen in Obama's second term; then that person is just reassuring what they already believe.
On the 11th anniversary of 911, I heard of new found evidence that President Bush was presented with a lot more evidence than previously known about the upcoming attacks from Al Qaida. I have no doubt that we could go back and make a case for blunders as a Monday morning quarterback for any of the wars we have been in. I have never blamed the Bush administration for the attack that was made on America, and I never will. Not to be outdone, I heard a claim that President Obama did not attend as many meetings on National Security, as he should have and they weighed the time he spent in those meetings against those he spent on the golf course.
I think the Republican Party needs to take a "chill pill” and relax because we still have 55 days remaining. It's not that I don't get a kick out of them squirming and hyperventilating, but I don't want members of my party to start getting complacent. I heard Laura Ingraham say that if Romney can't beat Obama in this environment" it’s time for the GOP to close shop; and start anew." Rush Limbaugh admitted that Republicans would vote for Elmer Fudd over President Obama, so they should take off the kid gloves or as Bill O'Reilly advices “just call 'em a socialist" and get on with the mudslinging. It's funny how those who have never run for office like to give the most advice.
