I can understand one's anti-war position and the fear of mission creep but that doesn't mean liberals have to call for unreasonable demands before voting for a resolution to give the president permission to order limited air strikes in Syria.
Liberal politicians and pundits have a lot more access than I do,so they should know that President Obama has tried his very best to stay out of the Syrian civil war for two years;much to the chagrin of some Republicans who will not vote for the military strike resolution.
Some on the left say we should take it to the security council of the UN and wait for their authorization. We know Russia and China will veto any idea of an attack. They then say we should threaten to install the anti missile defense systems in Europe that Russia opposes and start supplying F16s to Taiwan. And how does that keep Assad from using chemical weapons?
Others on the left are calling for the administration to summon all the nations who signed the ban on chemical warfare to condemn Assad. They even floated the idea of waiting 45 days to give Assad time to agree to give up his chemical weapons or face the military strikes. They act as thou Assad is a reasonable man besides the tyrant knows his options.
I certainly agree that we shouldn't be the policeman of the world but I'm also a realist. The world is fully aware of what happened in Syria, but as usual they won't take any steps ,unless the United States takes the lead and that's not even a given. It's unilaterally or take no action because we have already exhausted our diplomatic measures.
The thing that upsets the most is the question of what happens after the strikes. The administration doesn't have a time machine but there is some history they can lean on. Israel has struck Syria three times since 2011 and Syria has yet to retaliate in any real way.
Syria is 7,000 miles away,so it's easy to say what happens over there is not in our vital interest but then aren't we being like all the other nations who want an international norm but aren't willing to enforce it?
I can understand the fear of mission creep but again,President Obama did what he promised to do in Libya. President Clinton won the war in Kosovo with air power and not one American lost their life.
I cringe when Republicans invoke Benghazi into this discussion but I also get upset when liberals say we could use the billion dollars for domestic needs. Saudi Arabia and others have offered financial support.Speaking of Benghazi, today on Fox News Sunday Karl Rove was outraged that the administration sent Susan Rica to lie to the American people. How can that man say that with a straight face? I almost broke my stitches laughing when Brit Hume said that Benghazi was still very much alive and then Juan Williams said " only in your head ,Brit."
Some liberals are letting their libertarian roots take hold. Next, they will be agreeing with Ted Cruz and Rand Paul that this administration is helping al-Qaeda win control of Syria. They might even agree with Chris Wallace in trying to convince Rand Paul that striking Syria without congressional approval is an impeachable offense.
Liberals vote your conscience but don't make unrealistic demands of a president you support.Remember the GOP does not trust or like President Obama,so for the next three years, you might be the administration's voice of reason. Can you imagine America becoming an isolationist nation for the next three years?

I was just watching the KAVU clip on the protesters at Spec's this weekend.
The one dude states he's there to take his country back. Someone needs to bring him up to speed--his country hasn't gone anywhere. Its still here.
Lady holding a "Remember 9-11" sign. Okay. What about it and what does it have to do with the current situation?
Lastly, the woman explaining that they are there protesting the war in Syria. We need to get out she say. Again, someone needs to bring these folks up to speed!
I wouldn't embarrass myself by being so ignorant in such a public way!

I wish the reporter would have asked him to clarify his talking point…What does he mean by that? Does he want us to go back to a time when we attacked a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 or WMD?
True enough, I’m going to take a conservative estimate and say it takes about an hour to buy the materials to make a protest sign, assemble it and then take it to the protest area. It might even take that long to pen a letter to the editor. It seems to me that an extra hour to get up to speed and research your facts will go a long way in getting support…When did the shame of being so informed stop being that important?
A poster said we are helping those who attacked us on 9/11…No we are not. The al-Qaeda who attacked us are nearly gone but the ones in Syria are unorganized jihadist interested in regional power….There are members of core al-Qaeda in Yemen and parts of Pakistan who are perfecting their bomb making capabilities for a future attack on America.
Wouldn't This be wonderful?
"MOSCOW — In a surprise move, Russia promised Monday to push its ally Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control and then dismantle them quickly to avert U.S. strikes.
The announcement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov came a few hours after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that Syrian President Bashar Assad could resolve the crisis surrounding the alleged use of chemical weapons by his forces by surrendering control of "every single bit" of his arsenal to the international community by the end of the week.
